Images from the periphery of 19-th century Antwerp

In 1992 the photographers Georges Charlier and Hans Bol photographed for one year in what was called 'the 19th-century circle around Antwerp'. The work was commissioned by the Department of Architecture of 'Antwerpen 93'. Antwerp was 'cultural city of Europe' in 1993 and organized all sorts of cultural activities. Both photographers followed the city for a period of one year in order to make a sort of time-document of the 19th-century part of the city. It resulted in an exhibition in St. Felix, a 19th-century warehouse.

All photographs were made using 11x14" and a 12x20" view cameras; all prints in the exhibition were contactprints. The entire series is part of the collection of the 'Fotomuseum Provincie Antwerpen'.
