Images from a transitional area between two cities

In 2002 Prof. Daniel Kündig, Swiss architect and city planner, invited Hans Bol to produce a series of photographs in the cities of Brugg and Windisch (Switzerland). These two cities have over the years more or less grown 'back to back', resulting in a strip of land in the middle that has no clear function, but in which a number of industrial and private initiatives take place.

Bol photographed a number of times in this particular area under the title "Through the eyes of a stranger". The underlying thought was that someone, who is totally unfamiliar with an area, looks at a place through different eyes. The photographs capture the present atmosphere (2002) of this small piece of "no man's land", before it will change due to new building initiatives.

Prof. Kündig works for the "University of Applied Sciences Aargau" (Switzerland). Under his supervision the so-called "POLE Europe Project - Vision Mitte" takes place in Brugg-Windisch. Both Brugg and Windisch have requested a group of students from various disciplines and from various countries to think about and develop plans with regards to this area, so that both cities can logically and organically grow into one coherent city. "POLE Europe" wants to develop into an international learning platform used by both students and teachers, who think about and plan architecture on a theoretical and practical level.

The series of photographs Hans Bol made, were exhibited during the major presentation of the various project teams in Brugg-Windisch.
